Transport can be tricky in a new country, so we have you covered. Here are three easy ways to get to and from the airport, around town, or to our shop — the same three options we recommend to our divers every week.

inDrive

inDrive is an app, much like Uber (there is Uber in Cancun only, not in Playa del Carmen). You can download it from indrive.com.

The app helps you get a fair price rather than the tourist taxi price, but you do need to pay in cash, in Mexican pesos.

How it works: you select your pick-up point and destination, and the app suggests a price to offer. Drivers can then accept or reject your offer. If nobody accepts, simply raise your offer a little — some hotel zones cost more than the recommended price.

Miguel — our trusted driver

Miguel is our go-to driver. He runs a small company of well-maintained vehicles with excellent, reliable drivers. He accepts US dollars, Mexican pesos and card payments, and his English is perfect.

You can contact him directly on WhatsApp: +52 1 984 175 0870.

This is the option we recommend for airport pick-ups, early starts, and anyone travelling with family or a lot of luggage.

ADO bus

The ADO is the main bus service running to and from the airport and between cities. It generally runs every half an hour depending on the time of day, from around 2:30 AM to midnight. The journey between Cancun Airport and Playa del Carmen takes around one hour each way.

You will find it as you walk out of the airport — there is usually a kiosk inside the terminal and a smaller one outside in the parking lot (the outside one runs at all hours).

It is best to buy your ticket at the kiosk after you land. For your journey back to the airport you can buy online at ado.com.mx.

Getting to our dive shop

We are in Playa del Carmen, a short ride from anywhere in town. If you are unsure how to reach us on the morning of your dive, message us the night before and we will send you the exact location and the easiest way to get here.

Come and dive with us

Once you are settled in, the best of the Riviera Maya is underwater. We run cenote, cavern and ocean dives from Playa del Carmen every day, in small groups. Get in touch and we will help you plan your dive days around your travel.

Frequently asked questions

Is Uber available in Playa del Carmen?+
No. Uber operates in Cancun but not in Playa del Carmen. The usual app-based alternative in Playa is inDrive, where you offer a price and drivers accept or reject it. Payment is in cash, in Mexican pesos.
How long does it take to get from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen?+
Around one hour each way by road, whether you take the ADO bus, a private driver or a taxi. Allow extra time in peak traffic hours and when travelling on the day of a flight.
How much is transport from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen?+
The ADO bus is the cheapest option and runs roughly every half hour. A private driver or taxi costs considerably more but takes you door to door, which is worth it with luggage, an early dive start, or a family. Ask us and we will put you in touch with our trusted driver.
Do I need cash in Playa del Carmen?+
Yes, some. inDrive rides, small taquerias and street stalls are cash only, in Mexican pesos. Private drivers and larger businesses usually accept cards and often US dollars.
What time does the ADO bus run?+
Roughly from 2:30 AM until midnight, generally every half hour depending on the time of day. The kiosk outside the airport terminal operates at all hours.
