Cenote Taak Bi Ha

Taak Bi Ha which means “Hidden Route of Water” in Maya, is accessed through a small opening in the cavern roof and is amazingly lit with artificial lights. This cenote is fully underground an impressive photo spot, with the roof completely covered with stalactites and huge roots hanging down into the water.

Below the water is an exquisite wealth of fragile stalactites, stalagmites and many impressive columns. This dive is very shallow and often only a few meters deep, so the light from above playing on the water’s surface is beautiful to behold.

Excellent diving skills and perfect buoyancy control are a must on this dive due to its shallow water and the very fragile nature of the decorations. We will also go through some of the smallest sections you will experience on a cavern dive.

Taak Bi Ha is also great for non scuba divers. There are many areas to wander taking photos, easy snorkeling and they have even installed wifi underground.

Diving this cenote

This cenote is a one tank dive and is best combined with a dive in Cenote Tak Be Luum, also part of the Sac Actun system. This cenote is a very challenging dive, shallow and small surrounded by fragile formations. You must have proved good buoyancy and conduct in other caverns before being approved to enter this cenote.

As with most cenote tours we will meet around 8am at the dive shop to sort out scuba gear and paperwork, before heading off for our dives. Lunch is also included.

We suggest you bring a towel and a dry set of clothes. Keep in mind as in all cenotes sunscreen, cosmetics and insect repellent are banned due to the conservation of the site.

The History

Taak Bi Ha has been the site of much cinematic filming.  Used for scenes for the movie The Cave, the IMAX film Journey into Amazing Caves and the award-winning BBC program Planet Earth series, Caves.
