Cenote Dreamgate

Cenote Dreamgate as its name suggests is a gateway into a world of dreams. One of the most stunning and highly decorative caverns filled with very delicate formations of stalactites, stalagmites and columns.

Dreamgate is the closest you can come to cave diving without actually entering the cave. Nearly in full darkness, we dive under a giant air dome where tree roots twine through the cavern ceiling to reach the water. There are two independent routes, the upstream line and the downstream line.

With the fragile rock formations and thick silt at the bottom, you really must be an experienced diver with good buoyancy control and trim to enter this cenote. Inexperienced divers pose a risk to the beautiful structures as well as ruining the dive for those behind them, by kicking up sediment. But for those with the skills, it’s an amazing dive.

Diving this cenote

This cenote with its two routes is a great day trip for scuba divers. However, as it’s a very challenging dive, you must have proved good buoyancy and conduct in other caverns before being approved to enter this cenote. the cenote is shallow and small surrounded by fragile formations.

We suggest you bring a towel and a dry set of clothes. Keep in mind that in all cenotes sunscreen, cosmetics and insect repellent are banned due to the conservation of the site.

The History

The first explorers of Dreamgate were Buddy Quattlebaum and Chris Stanton. Connected by Robbie Schmittner to the Sistema Sac Actun from Cenote Koxul Ka’an on May 2009.
